Trot Out a New Thanksgiving Tradition

The 20th Annual Turkey Trot will get underway shortly, with the Kids K followed by the 5 mile race.  This Thanksgiving morning tradition was started by Austin owned Thundercloud Subs as a fun way to support Caritas of Austin.  Caritas serves the needs of those in poverty with “respect for all individuals, hope for those experiencing poverty and opportunities for self-reliance.”

The Turkey Trot also celebrates downtown Austin with a route that starts at the Long Center and winds along 6th Street and Cesar Chavez. Austin has a long tradition of running and races, from the 3M Half Marathon to the Capital 10K.  This town was made for the runner with all its trails along Town Lake and our pedestrian friendly downtown.

If trotting isn’t in your plans this year, consider starting this fun tradition next turkey day.  The Turkey Trot has raised over a million dollars for Caritas in the last twenty years, including $200,000 last year.
